Fodor's Expert Review Buena Vista Heritage Museum
Before leaving downtown, meander through the Buena Vista Heritage Museum in the 1882 brick courthouse. A falling-down stagecoach cabin near the back of the property and pretty carriage outside give a hint of what's inside. Each room is devoted to a different aspect of regional history from the 1860s to the 1900s: one to mining equipment, another to fashions, and another to household utensils. There are working models of the three railroads that serviced the area in its heyday, a schoolroom, and historical photos in the archives. A rafting and kayaking exhibit will have you itching to experience the thrill of the area's water sports for yourself.
