Fodor's Review

The Nature Conservancy, an international nonprofit conservation organization, owns a 103,000-acre ranch that includes a herd of roughly 2,000 bison in the 50,000-acre Medano Ranch section, in the southwest corner of the park. The conservancy offers a two-hour tour focused on the section of the park, where bison—along with coyotes, elk, deer, pronghorns, porcupines, and birds such as great horned owls and red-tailed hawks—roam in the grasslands and wetlands. Depending on the season, the tour will be led by wagon or a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Tours begin at the Nature Conservancy's Zapata Ranch Headquarters and reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance.
