Fodor's Expert Review Magnolia Hotel Denver

818 17th St., Denver, Colorado 80202, USA See on Map

Once dubbed “the Wall Street of the Rockies,” the Magnolia Hotel is housed inside the historic First National Bank building on 17th Street. Elements of Denver’s history are still incorporated within the 297-room property, including a bold clock on the corner of the building exterior. A rare hotel that is both business-focused and pet-friendly, the Magnolia Hotel Denver accepts all breeds and sizes at no extra charge.

LOCATION

Getting Around

The Magnolia’s location is highly walkable and easy to access public transportation. The 16th & Stout light rail station is a 2-minute walk. At the same intersection, travelers can also jump on the free MallRide shuttle, which runs along the 16th Street pedestrian thoroughfare from one end of downtown to the other. Pedi-cab, rideshare, and taxi service are also good options. Though the parking situation is valet only, the hotel does offer a house car to take guests to destinations within downtown.

Restaurants

Pasta and Italian delights await you at the date-worthy Panzano (1-minute walk). Indulge in tacos, margs, and eat your weight in guac at Otro Vez (5-minute walk). For a fun, saloon-era atmosphere, check out range (1-minute walk), boasting locally-sourced “New American West” cuisine, including bison, trout, foraged mushrooms, and roasted green chiles.

Bars

Enjoy a glass of wine at Wild Women Wine (1-minute walk), Denver’s downtown winery where you can even indulge in making your own special blend. For a full night on the town, Clocktower Cabaret (5-minute walk) has nightly burlesque, magic, music, and drag shows, plus a heck of a martini. Sports lovers can find beer and tons of televisions at Back East Bar & Grill (3-minute walk).

WHY WE LIKE IT

The gorgeously preserved building and terrific hotel bar pair nicely with a central location. If you love to travel with your pooch, you’ll appreciate the pet-friendly rooms and pet-themed add-on perks.
