Fodor's Expert Review Testa Vineyards

This family-owned winery sells most of its grapes—some from vines planted in the 1930s and 1940s—to notable Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino brands but withholds some of its output for its small label. Winemaker Maria Testa Martinson, whose great-grandparents established Testa Ranch in 1912, makes Charbono, Carignane, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and other reds from grapes grown on the estate, with a few whites from outside sources. Tastings take place in a spiffed-up former chicken coop with views of a pond and rolling vineyards. On sunny days you can enjoy at tasting on the patio outside.
