Fodor's Expert Review Lodge at Big Bear Lake

40650 Village Dr., Big Bear Lake, California, 92315, USA

Resembling a giant log cabin, the four-story Lodge, formerly Northwoods and now run by Holiday Inn's resort division, pays homage to Big Bear's mountain roots with the lobby's antler chandelier and stone fireplace. Rooms, which come in 17 different types, from standard doubles to a few huge suites great for families and large groups, retain the log-cabin motif with bark-veneer doors and small-timber headboards, but the updated decor largely incorporates chain-standard furnishings. Some rooms have balconies or patios, gas fireplaces, or whirlpool tubs. Stillwells Restaurant and Lounge, just off the lobby, serves Asian-inflected California cuisine.
