Fodor's Expert Review Modern Times Bookstore

Named after Charlie Chaplin's politically subversive film, the left-leaning store stocks high-quality literary fiction and nonfiction, much of it with a political bent. There are also sections for children's books, Spanish-language titles, and magazines and local subversive 'zines. Author readings and public forums are held regularly. If you're looking to kill a little time in the Mission before hooking up with dinner companions, this is a low-key and inviting place to hide out in the stacks.
