Japantown might be only a few blocks in size, but it's also home to a number of non-Japanese eateries, including this ever-popular specialist in kalbijjim, a Korean braised beef short rib soup. Each soup served in the industrial-feeling space, with serene images of mountains on the walls, is large enough to feed a small family and comes with a choice of toppings, like rice cakes or oozing melted cheese (the latter being an Instagram sensation). There are smaller options, though. Be prepared to wait at peak times.
