Why We Like It

Free parking, a great location across from the beach, and spacious family-friendly rooms make this a prime choice for people who don't want to be in the center of the action.

Fodor's Expert Review

About as far west as you can go in San Francisco without falling into the Pacific, Seal Rock Inn is a good choice for families and beach lovers, especially since Ocean Beach is an easy walk away. A recreation area, onsite restaurant, free parking and friendly staff are additional perks.

You Should Know Book well in advance on weekends and holidays (especially during music festivals like Outside Lands and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass).

Room

Large rooms with accordion-style dividers separating a queen bed from two twins are popular with families. In-room refrigerators and coffee pots allow travelers to take their time in the mornings. Second-story rooms enjoy ocean views, and gas fireplaces warm those foggy nights.

Bathroom

In 2017 the inn refurbished bathrooms with new tiles in showers. If you require a bathtub, request one in advance.

Lobby

The helpful staff in the small lobby can direct travelers to nearby attractions. On nice days, travelers hang out in the recreation area, which includes a ping pong table, badminton court, and lounge chairs.

Gym

Get your sweat on at the hotel's badminton court, or ask for directions to nearby Lands End for hiking and running.

Dining

The little Seal Rock Inn Restaurant serves a small selection of breakfast and lunch dishes. Omelets and pancakes dominate the morning offerings. Enjoy salads and sandwiches midday.

Drinking

Head over to the Cliff House (5-minute walk) for a glass of wine overlooking the ocean.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Parking is free. Getting around this side of town is much easier with a car. However, the Muni buses stop nearby, connecting travelers to downtown, BART trains, and eastern neighborhoods. Walkers appreciate the access to the beach and parks and the international appeal of the outer Richmond community.

Restaurants

The stunning Cliff House Restaurant (5-minute walk) provides diners with ocean vistas as they either sip martinis and dive into hunks of steak upstairs or enjoy burgers in the more casual downstairs Bistro. Pizza fans line up for a table at Pizzetta 211 (7-minute drive) for gourmet pies in a quiet atmosphere.

Bars

There's nothing else like the Cliff House Restaurant's Zinc Bar (5-minute walk) in the city. Overlooking Ocean Beach, watch seals beach on the rocks below and sip California wines. Beer lovers gather at the Beach Chalet (3-minute drive) to sample their house-brewed brews, listen to live music in the back garden or sip fancy cocktails upstairs overlooking the sea.
