Saigon on Fifth

$ Hillcrest Vietnamese

Fodor’s Expert Review

This upscale Vietnamese restaurant, open until 3 am, is a favorite for special family gatherings and date nights. It's also where the hipsters go for a steaming hot bowl of pho soup after bar-hopping in Hillcrest. A tall white Buddha stands at the entrance to the spacious, art-filled dining room, known for its attentive service and fresh authentic dishes. Beside the traditional pho, fans rave about spicy crab fried rice; seafood-stuffed imperial rolls, and clay pot-cooked fish. Original dishes include the Saigon Love Boat, seafood wrapped in a banana leaf and grilled. The restaurant validates parking at the nearby Union Bank Garage. The entrance is around the corner on University Avenue, rather than 5th Avenue, as the name and address suggests.
