La Jolla's ocean-view destination restaurant includes three dining areas: California Modern on the bottom floor, the Level2 bar in the middle, and Ocean Terrace on the roof. The sleek main dining room presents elegant preparations of seafood, beef, and venison, which star-chef Trey Foshee enlivens with amazing local produce. Give special consideration to the legendary “fish tacos.” Two levels of tasting menus are available, but the four-course offering generally is perfect for pocketbook and palate. For a more casual and inexpensive experience, head to the outdoor-only Ocean Terrace for spectacular views. The new Level2 lounge turns out small plates, wines, local beers, and unique cocktails, like the Sea3 that's chilled with seaweed-laced ice cubes.
