Fodor's Review

Since 1986, nationally recognized chef and owner Biba Caggiano has prepared northern Italian cuisine in her inviting restaurant near Sutter's Fort. The Capitol crowd flocks here for menus that change quarterly, with staples such as a 10-layer lasagne with Bolognese sauce, braised lamb shanks, and house-made gnocchi. For dessert, try delicious zuccotto Florentino (a layer of rum-soaked cake with chocolate ganache crowned with a mountain of whipped cream, and bites of hazelnuts, almonds, and chocolate). A pianist adds to the upscale ambience nightly. Chef Biba is in the restaurant most nights and happily signs her cookbooks (also available for sale).
