Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Winters
12 Abbey St., , California, USA
Art by regional artists adorns the hallways of this dapper, three-story, downtown historic district boutique property that opened in 2019 and became an instant favorite of business folk, leisure travelers, and local brides. The first-floor public areas include a lobby that invites lingering; a spa; and Carboni's, an Italian restaurant, bar, and grab-and-go market. When it's open, patrons of the rooftop enjoy town and mountain views while sipping their beverages. As for the accommodations, done in shades of gray and warm browns they're spacious (320–750 square feet, 10-foot ceilings) and furnished with deluxe beds, high-thread-count sheets, refrigerators, coffee makers, and 4G HDTVs. All the well-lit bathrooms are equipped with rain forest showers; a few also have claw-foot soaking tubs.
PROS
- fresh look
- spacious rooms with 10-foot ceilings
- town and mountain views from rooftop bar
CONS
- some street-side noise (ask for a room toward the back)
- shallow "water lounge" has a mesmerizing water feature, but there's no legit pool
- irregular hours at rooftop bar
