Fodor's Expert Review Avalon Hotel Palm Springs
415 S. Belardo Rd., Palm Springs, California 92262, United States See on Map
With three pools and a spa spread over four acres of gardens, the Avalon Hotel Palm Springs feels downright opulent. The downtown Palm Springs location places it right in the action, but you might pass by the unassuming walled exterior without realizing the private oasis beckoning inside.
room
The room selection at this boutique property ranges from single rooms and studios to suites and private bungalows. All rooms include WiFi and Bluetooth speakers and are decorated in airy white with black and gray accents and an emphasis on natural light.
bathroom
The fresh decor continues to the baths, which hold expanded walk-in showers and white and chrome fixtures. Bathrooms are stocked with terry cloth robes and bath amenities from Davine®’s Momo line of products.
lobby
The styled lobby, with geometric paint, gold embellishment, and mid-mod furniture, feels very 1960s California cool.
pool
The pool, surrounded by private white and navy canopies, offers poolside drink service and the patio area can be booked for wedding receptions and private parties.
spa
The menu at Estrella Spa includes massages, facials, nail care, and waxing, in addition to holistic health treatments. Guests can also book sessions with a life coach.
gym
The compact gym includes treadmills and free weights. The Avalon offers small group classes, such as yoga and meditation.
dining
Guests can order room service 24 hours a day, or can venture to the on-site restaurant, Chi Chi. Chi Chi provides service from brunch to dinner and puts an emphasis on sourcing local food and providing healthy options.
LOCATION
Getting Around
At this location, a car isn’t really required unless you’re planning to travel to destinations outside of Palm Springs. It’s an easy walk to the shops, dining, bar, and entertainment options of downtown Palm Springs and the city’s free Buzz shuttle runs throughout the main drag every 15-minutes from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m.
Restaurants
The intimate Rooster & the Pig (5-minute walk) is a popular spot with a twist on Vietnamese cuisine. Another good bet is Zin American Bistro (7-minute walk) an eatery with a fantastic patio that’s perfect for conversation or for people watching. The tony Spencer’s (9-minute walk) is the perfect spot for a quiet dinner or date.
WHY WE LIKE IT
This upscale property calls back to 1960s swanky, with private bungalows, lush grounds, and an emphasis on style. It’s certainly romantic and relaxing and feels like a true getaway while still being super accessible to all the popular Palm Springs haunts.
