Fodor's Review

The late Rodney Strong was among the first winemakers to plant Pinot Noir grapes in the Russian River Valley; his namesake winery still makes Pinot Noirs, but it's known more for Cabernet Sauvignon–based wines. The headliners include the Bordeaux-style blend Symmetry and three single-vineyard Alexander Valley Cabernets: Alexander's Crown, Rockaway, and Brothers Ridge. You can sample Cabs and Pinots—along with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Malbec, Zinfandel, and other wines—in the octagonal tasting room and, in good weather, on an umbrella-shaded terrace. A self-guided tour provides a good view of the fermentation tanks and machinery; guided tours also take place. The winery hosts popular outdoor rock concerts (including Huey Lewis, the B-52s, and Smokey Robinson in recent years) during summer.
