Fodor's Review

Pass through an impressive metal gate and wind your way up a steep hill to reach Gary Farrell, a spot with knockout views over the rolling hills and vineyards below. Although its Zinfandels and Chardonnays often excel, the winery is best known for its Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs, many from top nearby vineyards. Weather permitting, the best place to taste is out on the terrace, where you can sample several current-release single-vineyard wines by Theresa Heredia. Another option is a private indoor tasting that includes older vintages for comparison. All tastings are by appointment, preferably made two days ahead, although during the week, especially in winter, same-day reservations are usually possible. The Pinots from the Hallberg and Rochioli vineyards are worth checking out.
