Fodor's Expert Review The London West Hollywood

1020 N. San Vicente Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90069, United States See on Map

An urban oasis, The London hotel combines British sensibilities with Hollywood style for both a luxurious setting and a really fun social scene. A mix of entertainment professionals, musicians (proximity to great music halls) and international travelers come to the hotel for its Sunset Strip location and personalized service.

lobby

The minimalist and refined lobby has a big city feel with marble floors and a roaring fireplace with giant clock overhead.

The hotel is home to an ever-rotating slew of press junkets because there’s an 110-seat screening room inside. Keep your eyes peeled as you never know what A-lister you might see walking around the hallways.

dining

Boxwood is the hotel’s main restaurant and bar and serves an eclectic mix of California cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s also a children’s menu for fickle family members. Adjacent the restaurant is a sitting room if you want to have a laid-back business meeting. drinking

The rooftop is a see-and-be-seen social spot for both locals and guests. Throughout the week, the roof plays host to DJ-spun parties that can often be hard to get into. Inside of the hotel, The London Bar at Boxwood is a flirty watering hole with top-shelf spirits, craft cocktails and beers and a savory wine list.

LOCATION

Getting Around

Walking around the hotel is a snap. You’re 50 feet away from the famous Sunset Strip, which is home to shops, restaurants, bars and music venues. Getting a cab or Uber/Lyft around here is easy as it’s such a heavily trafficked area. There’s no metro access, but buses come through regularly. Renting a car can be a hassle in this area, and paying for parking is never fun.

Restaurants

A trendy, but spendy Thai restaurant Night + Market (6-minute walk) is up the street. Estrella (4-minute walk) has an incredible indoor/outdoor space and serves an international menu of goodies for dinner.

Bars

For a high-end club scene, check out New York transplant 1Oak (6-minute walk). You may want to ask the concierge to get you past the door though. For late night rocker sightings, head to the Rainbow Bar & Grill (5-minute walk), a legendary restaurant that takes in the crowds from The Roxy Theatre, Viper Room and Whisky a Go Go on the Strip.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Refined yet rambunctious. Popular but private. Flirty and fun. The London takes a slice of Great Britain and mixes it well with the lavishness of LA. The hotel’s location is ideal for lovers of the Sunset Strip and all it has to offer. International travelers will feel at home here as well with spacious rooms and a full-keyed concierge. The heart of the hotel is its social scene, where a good-looking crowd congregates throughout the week. It’s not adults-only, but it may as well be, as the hotel wants its guests to have fun, eat and drink well and soak in all the sites on a single visit.
