Marina del Rey Hotel

13534 Bali Way, Marina del Rey, California 90292, USA

Located directly on the largest man-made harbor in the world, the Marina del Rey Hotel is a nautically-themed space that caters to Silicon Beach business travelers, summer family vacationers and those just looking to party on a random Sunday. A fun and bustling spot, the hotel prides itself on its location, dining, and service.

room

Almost every beachy-themed room in the hotel features a balcony or patio--many that look over the beautiful Marina down below. All rooms come with Keurig coffeemakers and free Wi-Fi.

Ask for a Marina-side room so you can get a front row seat to the audacious yachts and sailboats coming through the harbor.

bathroom

The bathrooms come with lighted vanity mirrors, walk-in showers, and Molten Brown bath products.

lobby

The bold lobby is ensconced in ocean blue with a ceiling that reaches up to the third floor of the hotel. A seabird display flies overhead as weary travelers hunker down on teal couches. The lobby isn’t much of a hangout, but is an impressive welcome to the venue.

pool

A heated infinity pool takes up most of the sun-deck that abuts the harbor. Usually a relaxed and chill spot, the pool is transformed on Sundays into a Vegas-style, DJ-led party.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Sunday Funday gets pretty wild. If you’re bringing kids, prepare to do something non-pool related on Sunday.

gym

The small fitness center is equipped with free weights, treadmills, and other standard equipment to get a complete workout.

If you want to take your exercise outside, the hotel rents bikes for $5/hour.

dining

SALT is the hotel’s signature Cali-cuisine restaurant with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a great happy hour. Try to secure a seat on the patio that looks out over the water.

Room service is available 24/7.

drinking

The bar off of SALT has a decent happy hour from 4-6:30pm and serves basic bar food. Take your drinks out to the patio and sit by the fire pits for a romantic evening.

LOCATION

Getting Around

The Marina is a fun place to walk around, but it’s not exactly walking distance to most restaurants, bars, shopping and attractions. Use Uber or Lyft to get you around to Venice or Santa Monica or be prepared to rent a car to get around the rest of the city. The closest train station is a 20-minute drive to Santa Monica, so you’re better off just driving to wherever you want to be. There’s a free shuttle that will take you anywhere in the Marina--just be kind and tip your driver.

Restaurants

Burrito-lovers will salivate over local chain Freebirds World Burrito (8-minute drive). For incredible sushi, try SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa (4-minute drive).

Bars

The Venice Whaler (8-minute drive) is a Venice institution since 1944, has DJs on Saturdays and Sundays, and a great happy hour menu. Brennan’s Pub (7-minute drive) is another classic Marina joint, that has featured turtle racing.

WHY WE LIKE IT

This fun and vibrant hotel has a truly unique location, directly on the Marina del Rey Harbor. Families will feel at home here with bike rentals, game rooms and a free shuttle around the Marina. Getting anywhere to eat, drink, shop or explore is a bit of a hassle, but the Marina air helps ease the pain (oh, what pain). Business travelers will find this hotel as a great place to unwind--either at happy hour during the week or to completely let loose during Sunday’s rambunctious pool party.
