Fodor's Expert Review Inn at 657
657 W. 23rd St., Los Angeles, California 90007, USA See on Map
Inn at 657 is a country-styled bed & breakfast that treats its customers like members of the family. With scrumptious breakfasts, cozy rooms, and proximity to major shopping, dining, drinking, and attractions, this B&B is the perfect home away from home in a part of town you’d least expect.
room
There are five distinct rooms in the house that range from one to two bedrooms and all with en suite bathrooms, hardwood floors, cable TV, and area rugs.
bathroom
White-tiled bathrooms are equipped with Neutrogena products, fresh towels daily, and separate shower and bathtubs.
lobby
Common areas of the house consist of the dining room, a comfy living room area replete with plush carpeting, couches, and an oft-used piano.
With a close proximity to a music school, as well as the University of Southern California, you may luck out and find world-class musicians staying and practicing in the living room.
dining
Breakfast is served at a long communal dining table and usually comes with a house-made Panna Cotta that you have to taste to believe. There’s also a snack room for guests with coffee, tea, yogurt, water, and sodas.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Finding a quality restaurant nearby is tough, but if you catch a Lyft or Uber, you can be downtown in less than 10 minutes for a wider range of food options.
LOCATION
Getting Around
If you stay here, we’d highly recommend renting a car. There’s free parking at the Inn and you’re close to the freeway to get you anywhere in LA in a jiff (minus traffic). If you don’t want to rent, Uber and Lyft rides are always available and can also take you to metro stops just up the street in Downtown LA. This isn’t an ideal walking area--we’d recommend against walking around alone at night.
Restaurants
Head over to LA Live (8-minute drive) where you have a range of restaurant options like Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse, or hot sushi spot Katsuya.
WHY WE LIKE IT
For those who like a warm, cozy, feels-like-home vibe, this B&B will hit that sweet spot. Because of its proximity to USC and Downtown there are always interesting and eclectic guests to meet over the breakfast table. Rooms here are clean, and maid service comes through daily. While the area is still cleaning up its act, it by no means should be a deterrent. If you have business downtown, at the university, or just want to stay on the east side without any pretention, then you can’t go wrong here.
