Fodor's Expert Review Custom Hotel
8639 Lincoln Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90045, USA See on Map
For a commuter hotel near LAX, there is a lot more here than meets the eye. Once inside this minimalist property, international guests, airline crews, and tour groups are treated to a bustling pool scene and a level of comfort, perfect for brief stays between flights. Though it’s not in the most glamourous part of town, it’s still close to a variety of food, drink, and retail options that should tide you over before you take off to other parts of the world.
room
Stellar views are offered on higher floors of the 12-story tower. Standard rooms feature white-draped walls, minimal furnishings, and complimentary coffee.
bathroom
Black concrete floors give way to white porcelain sinks with Lather products. Shower/tub combos are standard.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The bathtubs are only useful if you’re under 6-feet tall.
lobby
The lobby is a generally cold-feeling hub with odd candy art framing the walls. Here, guests will find a business center and a small café featuring Illy coffee.
The hotel offers free shuttle service to the airport and back.
pool
The pool is the gem of the property with a sweeping brown deck overlooking first-come-first-serve cabanas. During summer months, the pool is filled with Otis and Loyola students during their Saturday and Sunday DJ-led pool parties. Food and beverages are available at DECK33 Bar & Restaurant.
gym
Oddly, the property has two gym areas. The first is the weight room with free weights, benches, and weight machines. The second is the cardio room with treadmills and ellipticals.
The hotel also provides $10 vouchers for LA Fitness across the street.
dining
DECK33 Bar & Restaurant overlooks the pool and is a fully outdoor spot with fire pits and classic American fare. In the lobby is a small breakfast that runs from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m.
LOCATION
Getting Around
Since you’re probably a commuter, it may not be worth renting a car. No worries, Uber and Lyft drivers are always in the area because of the airport. Luckily, you’re only 10 minutes from Venice, Marina del Rey, and 15-minutes from Santa Monica in case you want last minute sightseeing or sun tanning.
Restaurants
Fast food fiends will salivate when they see they’re only a 4-minute drive from In-N-Out Burger. If you want one last great sushi meal before you leave LA, check out SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa (7-minute drive) in the Marina.
WHY WE LIKE IT
As a layover hotel, they do a really good job of keeping their clients comfortable. Rooms are cozy and have great views. The pool is a fun hangout. And the food and drinks aren’t too shabby either. Don’t expect royal treatment, but the service is good and the staff helpful with things to do in the area. Close to LAX (with free shuttles) and close enough to the beach, this hotel is a solid option when you’ve only got one night left in the City of Angels.
