Oak Creek Country Club. This semiprivate 18-hole, par-72 course was designed by the father-son team of Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Robert Trent Jones Jr. It is a traditional, rather than desert, course with long, tree-lined fairways and slightly elevated greens amid lovely red rock views. Providing challenges for beginner through advanced golfers, this course is described as "player-friendly." It's budget-friendly, too, in the afternoons: tee off after 3 pm and the greens fee is only $81. 690 Bell Rock Blvd., Sedona, Arizona, 86351. 888/284–1660; 928/295–6400; www.oakcreekcc.com. $139; $104 after 1 pm; $81 after 3 pm.

Sedona Golf Resort. A gorgeous course, Sedona Golf Resort was designed by Gary Panks to take advantage of the many changes in elevation and scenery. Golf courses are a dime a dozen in Arizona, but this one is regarded as one of the best in the state. Don't let the stunning views around every bend distract your focus from the undulating greens and fairways. The restaurant—with panoramic red rock vistas—serves breakfast and lunch daily. 35 Ridge Trail Dr., Big Park, Arizona, 86351. 928/284–9355; www.sedonagolfresort.com. $125; $99 after 12; $80 after 2.
