Park Essentials

Accessibility

The visitor center, museum, and overlooks on the scenic drive are wheelchair accessible. All trails are paved, although they are uneven, rough, and sometimes steep. Check the park website (nps.gov/pefo) for information on accessibility. The park's visitor centers, as well as some picnic areas, have accessible restrooms.

Park Fees and Permits

Entrance fees are $25 per car for seven consecutive days or $15 per person on foot or bicycle, or $20 per motorcycle. Backcountry hiking and camping permits are free (15-day limit) at the Painted Desert Visitor Center or the Rainbow Forest Museum before 4 pm.

Park Hours

It’s a good idea to call ahead or check the website, because the park’s hours vary so much; as a rule of thumb, the park is open daily from sunrise to sunset or approximately 8 am–5 pm. Keep in mind that the area does not observe daylight saving time.
