Ma Johnson's Hotel

McCarthy, Alaska, USA

Fodor’s Expert Review

A restored boarding house from the early 1900's when McCarthy was the place miners came to carouse, this characterful bed and breakfast is filled with actual mining artifacts. Rooms are cheerfully decorated with traditional quilts, wrought-iron beds, and lace curtains but extremely small in size—they're not much bigger than a bed and a doorway, and it's recommended you only bring carry-on luggage. The hotel is located right on "main street" McCarthy, a dirt road, and right across the street from the Golden Saloon and McCarthy Lodge, also owned by local character Neil Darish.
