Fodor's Expert Review Grand Aleutian Hotel

498 Salmon Way, Box 921169, Dutch Harbor, Alaska, 99692-1169, USA

The airy, three-story atrium lobby with a large stone fireplace lends a European chalet sensibility to a hotel with carpeted, brightly lighted rooms decorated with Alaska artwork, many with wonderful views overlooking the water. Rooms come with either two queen beds or one king-sized bed, and have full bathrooms and in-room coffee makers. There are several on-site dining options, including the upscale Chart Room Restaurant on the second floor and the Cape Cheerful Lounge. For more informal dining and breakfast with a mountain view during the week, there's Margaret Bay Café.

  • very clean
  • helpful and enthusiastic staff
  • bay-view rooms

CONS

  • interior is a bit generic
  • doesn't feel very Alaskan
