Fodor's Expert Review Rain Haven
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This one-bedroom floating houseboat is perfect for those in search of a peaceful retreat with up-close wildlife viewing. In July and August the houseboat is anchored in a remote cove 30 miles south of Wrangell, with canoes and kayaks for access to Anan Creek Wildlife Observatory. It's perfect for couples and small families, with a double bed, a pullout couch, and a single bed. The galley is stocked with staples, and there's a sunny atrium at the stern and a covered deck on the bow. Package stays include transportation from Wrangell. In May, June, and September the houseboat is docked in town and goes for $85 per night. Owner Marie Oboczky, a former Forest Service naturalist, leads local tours, and is very knowledgeable about the area.
