Westmark Baranof Hotel

127 N. Franklin St., Juneau, Alaska, 99801, USA

The Baranof has long been Juneau's most prestigious address; it's as close to a big-city boutique hotel as you're going to find in Southeast. Tasteful woods and period lamps in the dark art-deco lobby create an old-money atmosphere reminiscent of 1939, when the hotel first opened. Upscale dining is available in the Gold Room, but be advised that this is one of the few restaurants in Juneau that has no windows. A small lounge, the Bubble Room, is a popular spot for legislators when they're in town, and the attached Capital Café serves a decent breakfast. Rooms on the front side have the best views, but street noise may keep you awake at the lower levels. The best accommodations are the spacious upper-floor corner suites, which overlook the busy harbor and have views of the forested mountains of Douglas Island. Some of the other rooms are fairly small, and the decor could use an update.
