Fodor's Review

A first-rate player in the ever-growing Alaskan craft brewing scene, 49th State Brewing Company offers something for those who love beer, those who love food, and, especially, those who think life is best when food and beer are served together. Brewed on-site, the beers are exceptionally good—this locally owned wonder sells about 10 different varieties at any given time to suit a wide range of preferences, as well as house-made root beer. Try a beer tasting if you can't decide. The eclectic food menu has lots of local seafood, meats, and vegetables, and top-notch bar treats (get the Bavarian handmade pretzel). There's even a vegan Reuben that will make the meat-free very happy. The Friday night all-you-can-eat pig roast ($22) is a fun event. The outside beer garden is an easy spot to meet new friends, while those in search of both a souvenir and a cold beverage to quaff back at their hotel or campsite should consider getting an insulated growler to go filled with one of the brewery's creations.
