Fodor's Expert Review Club Paris

$$$$ Downtown Steakhouse

Alaska's oldest steak house has barely changed since opening in 1957. The restaurant, with dark wood and an old-fashioned feel, serves tender, flavorful steaks of all kinds, including a 4-inch-thick filet mignon. If you have to wait for a table, have a martini at the bar and order the hors d'oeuvres platter ($32)—a sampler of top sirloin steak, halibut chunks, cheese, and prawns that could be a meal for two. For dessert, try a slice of tart key lime or sweet-potato pie. Dinner reservations are advised.
