Fodor's Review

Formerly known as the Canadian Museum of Civilization, this superb institution officially changed its name in 2013 when it received C$25 million in funding from the Canadian government in order to renovate and expand. More than 50,000 square feet of the existing museum will be renovated, and a new Canada History Hall will be added, showcasing people and events that have shaped Canada over the years. Some areas will remain open throughout the work, but it's scheduled to fully reopen on July 1, 2017, for the 150th anniversary of Canada's Confederation. Areas that will remain open include the most popular exhibit, the National Aboriginal Collection, which has some 2,000 objects on display. Also staying open are the Children's Museum, Grand Hall, and IMAX Theatre, but call before you go to check on any temporary closures.
