Fodor's Expert Review Maison Christian Faure
The upscale bakery has made its elegant home inside a beautifully renovated gray stone, three-story building in Old Montréal. The prominent pastry display holds rows of French classics like mille-feuilles (a delicate layered dessert of puff pastry and airy vanilla-scented custard) and the best Paris-Brest (a dessert made of choux pastry and a praline flavored cream) this side of the pond, as well as seasonal fruit tarts, baskets of buttery brioches and flaky croissants. The man himself, acclaimed pastry chef Christian Faure, is the recipient of France's highest culinary honor of Meilleur ouvrier de France. The space has a pastry school on the upper floors while the ground floor is dedicated to various delectable take-out or eat-in options.
