Fodor's Expert Review Julien's Pâtisserie, Bakery & Café

$ Chester Bakery Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The buttery croissants, brioches, and pain de campagne (country bread) made here are tasty testaments to its namesake owner's French roots. That's just the beginning, though. Savory homemade soups are also available, as are hefty deli sandwiches (the Knuckle & Claw lobster sandwich is justifiably famous in these parts). A slice of the fruity, brandy-doused Tart Pays d'Auge, named after an area in Normandy, makes a fine finish. Load up on lunchables for an impromptu picnic along Chester's scenic waterfront, or pull up a chair in the café section.
