Fodor's Expert Review Farmer's Apprentice

$$$$ South Granville Canadian Fodor's Choice
Book ahead to nab one of the 30 or so seats in this cozy bistro, where chef-owner David Gunawan and his team in the open kitchen craft wildly creative "vegetable forward" set menus. It's not a vegetarian restaurant, but fresh local produce plays starring roles both the "omnivore" (C$55) and "herbivore" (C$50) menus, each featuring six courses that change daily to feature seasonal ingredients like garlic ramps, heirloom tomatoes, and black garlic. Come early (5:30–6:30) for a smaller four-course meal for C$40. For cocktails and a lighter meal, head to the sister wine bar, Grapes and Soda, right next door. Reservations aren't accepted for lunch or brunch, but they're essential for dinner.
