Fodor's Expert Review Casa Las Tortugas

Calle Igualdad s/n, 77310, Mexico Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

This romantic, bohemian-chic spot has a prime location and one of the nicest spas on Holbox. Designed by Italian owner Francesca Golinelli, it's colorfully decorated with artwork collected from her Latin American travels. The Mexican fabrics, seashell curtains, and local-artisan furniture in each room create a relaxed vibe; white, polished concrete floors inlaid with river stones help keep rooms cool, as do the balconies that receive ocean breezes. Bathrooms have hand-painted sinks, stone-walled showers, and the hotel's signature line of honey-infused toiletries. The delicately groomed grounds are dotted with lounge chairs, sun umbrellas, hammocks, and swinging beach beds. The small pool is inviting, but most guests relax on the sand (this is one of the few beachfront properties not separated from the sea by the main road). The restaurant uses ingredients from its own garden, and there's a juice bar for those wanting a shot of energy. Aside from offering spa treatments, the hotel hosts retreats for yoga, dance, meditation, and cooking. Note that rooms do not have TVs.
