Fodor's Expert Review Los Mestizos
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This humble restaurant has brightly painted walls (even the ceiling fans are painted a vivid orange). The Combinado los Mestizos on the dinner menu offers a taste of several regional specialties including salbutes and panuchos—both typical appetizers of fried cornmeal, the latter stuffed with beans—as well as chicken and turkey dishes. A far less common dish called dzotobichay is a tamale made with chaya leaves. There's a view of the church beyond the marketplace from the rooftop terrace. This is a great place to get an early start or wind up a long day of sightseeing.
