Fodor's Expert Review Los Mestizos
This humble restaurant has brightly painted walls; even the ceiling fans are painted a vivid orange. The "Combinado los Mestizos" on the dinner menu offers a taste of several regional specialties including salbutes and panuchos—both typical appetizers of fried cornmeal, the latter stuffed with beans—as well as chicken and turkey dishes. A far less common dish called dzotobichay is a tamale made with chaya leaves. There's a bit of a view of the church beyond the marketplace from the rooftop terrace. Los Mestizos is a great place to get an early start or wind up a long day of sightseeing.
