Fodor's Expert Review La Misión de Fray Diego
Calle 61 No. 524, between Calles 64 and 66, Mérida, Yucatán, 97000, Mexico
The elegant accommodations in this former 1900s convent still retain their colonial charm, and tasteful touches (like crucifixes and statues) ensure they look divine. All have high ceilings, arched doorways, and checkered tile floors; suites have Jacuzzis, domed ceilings, marble pillars, and a stairway leading up to the bed. Request a room on the third floor, since some of those on the lower floors tend to be somewhat dark. A wraparound balcony overlooks an open-air courtyard, which is filled with lush greenery and a pool that's illuminated at night. Web-only promotions are often available.
