The Panama Jack Resorts Gran Porto Playa del Carmen (formerly known as Gran Porto Real) is one of the few lucky all-inclusive hotels in Playa that is beachfront and within walking distance of the famous Fifth Avenue. A cool, family-friendly resort with good taste and laid-back attitude. A really enjoyable place.
Accommodations come with a fresh design with a variety of aqua elements. Luxury is there, but it doesn’t feel in excess. Standard rooms come with a semi-private terrace with non-ocean views. The rest of the suites feature a private balcony or terrace with either courtyard or ocean views. The family suites include twin bunk beds, while the beachfront walk-out suites offer exactly that and they are quite impressive.
The Premium Oceanfront Suite includes an exclusive designated cabana and full privileges at their sister hotel The Royal.
Panama Jack’s bathrooms are elegant and classy with orange marble countertops and a wide and spacious shower. They all come with vanity mirror, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers.
The lobby is a big hall with brick-roofed arches and stoned-walls. Tables and chairs from the lobby bar offer enough seating options and the nearby corridors are filled with a series of clothes and jewelry shops. This is social lobby with more life than most.
Panama Jack Resort includes features a gorgeous oceanfront swimming pool, which offers a series of activities during the day, including aqua-aerobics and foam pool parties. It also has a shallow section for kids, with pirate boat included. For a more relaxed approach, there is a rooftop terrace with pool and hot tub.
You get through Spa Real through a fancy spiral staircase which is a prelude of the kind of service you are about to receive. This Spa feels like an European one, with an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere that permeates the whole place. They are experts on hydrotherapy and chocolate treatments.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Spa services are not included in the all-inclusive package.
The Life Fitness Center is a small gym where the highlights are those strategically located treadmills overlooking the pool area. A few strength machines and free weights section complement the limited equipment offer in what could be described as a cute little gym.
Ventanas offer an international buffet with relaxing vies of the Caribbean. Viaggio and Pinchos are excellent dining options serving Italian dishes and Brazilian steaks respectively. And then you have Zarape, a lively and colorful Mexican restaurant with a more casual setting. Finally, Off the Hook serves sushi rolls and seafood, while Jack’s 24 is a 24-hour lounge filled with snacks and munchies.
There are four bars available at Panama Jack Resort and two more coming soon (a rooftop lounge and a coffee bar). Deck 74 setting is delightful, offering stunning ocean views day and night, while Jack’s Landing features live music in a casual but refined ambience by the lobby.
The centric location of the Panama Jack Resort allows its guests to walk to most Playa del Carmen sights. However, Cancun International Airport is a good 50-minute drive away, and if you are not renting a car, you will need to get a taxi or buy a ticket for an ADO bus trip to downtown Playa. For day trips like Tulum or Chichen Itza, you should consider renting a car.
Aldea Corazon (5-minute walk) offers exotic Mexican dishes in a mystical garden setting. How do you feel about a steak filled with corn smut? Plank (4-minute walk) serves some of the best steaks in town in a sophisticated environment.
Almirante Pech (8-minute walk) is a cool bar with exotic cocktails and live music. Once the sun sets, Zenzi (7-minute walk) becomes a lively lounge bar by the beach with live rock or Dj music.
