Why We Like It

Great location and affordable rates. The rooftop terrace offers outstanding views of the Quinta and the Caribbean. The long-term option for the Kitchenette Suite is an interesting idea.

Fodor's Expert Review

Open since 1988, Delfín was one of the first hotels in the city. Its enviable location and characteristic building (fully covered by climbing plants) have made of it a popular choice among the budget-conscious travelers. An interesting option for those looking a clean, affordable hotel near to Playa’s main attractions.

You Should Know There is no pool, restaurant or parking at Hotel Delfín. If you are looking for some amenities besides clean rooms and excellent location, this may not be the hotel for you.

The rooms are divided into Superior Doubles, Kitchenette Suites and Penthouses. They share a kitsch and simplistic décor that seems unchanged since the hotel grand opening back in the eighties. The 4th floor Penthouses enjoy access to a private rooftop terrace with partial ocean views. All rooms include air conditioning, free Wi-Fi access and double-pane windows.

Tip If planning for a longer-than-usual visit, you may want to ask for the ongoing monthly rate of the Kitchenette Suite.

The bathrooms come in gray native marble or colorful-tiled walls. Some include hand-painted bathroom sink, or another kind of Mexican-style touch such as river-stone designs on the walls. A couple of suites include a bathtub.

This lobby manages to create a quaint atmosphere with colorful mosaic designs and several flower pots. Besides that, the front-desk, a couple of rustic sofas and a television, is all there is.

La Coronela (6-minute walk) is three blocks away from Hotel Delfin and serves really good food. You can choose from simple tacos or try a lobster. Rolandi’s (8-minute walk) is a solid restaurant that will never disappoint you. Maybe not so fancy as many others in downtown but their Italian food is always top-notch.

Fat Tuesday (5-minute walk) has a large selection of cold cocktails that you will really appreciate in hot days. They also play good music and their service is excellent. The Public Place (15-minute walk) has a bit more underground look. You can watch sports events, chill, and enjoy your beer.
