Catalonia Royal Tulum

Set between the lush jungle and the stunning Caribbean Sea, Catalonia Royal Tulum is an elegant all-inclusive resort with lots of luxurious amenities and exciting things to do. Located in Xpu-Ha, halfway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, it’s surrounded by incredible nature that include mangroves, cenotes, and a spectacular white sand beach.

room

Accommodations at Catalonia Royal Tulum are well-appointed if unimpressive. Décor is elegant, with marble floors and dark wood furniture. All rooms feature a private terrace or balcony, pillow menu, Wi-Fi access, air conditioning and ceiling fans. Some suites feature classy four-poster beds.

YOU SHOULD KNOW The rooms’ buildings are deep into the jungle, so no room enjoy ocean views and to get to the beach guests have some walk to do.

The bathrooms are all-marble with rainfall showers and VIP make-up mirror with integrated light. All bathrooms include hairdryer, bathrobes and deluxe toiletries.

A tall and wide round palapa hosts Catalonia Royal’s lobby. The area features marble floors, a series of shops and boutiques, several rattan-styled sofas and an overall impersonal atmosphere.

pool

A large beachfront pool with a Jacuzzi in its center and a series of lounge chairs and palapas surrounding it, is the most popular area in the resort during the daytime. There is also the ‘Pure’ section with a more peaceful pool and Balinese beds. Finally, an ocean view outdoor Jacuzzi is a relaxing spot perfect to unwind at sunset.

spa

Alegria Spa offers a wide array of treatments, therapies, massages and beauty services in an intimate setting. The two wet areas include sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and showers, while there is also a master suite designated exclusively for hydrotherapy treatments.

gym

The fitness center offers ample space, with separated cardio and strength sections. All cardio machines enjoy nice views of the pool area. There are also free weights, yoga mats and Pilates balls available for guests.

dining

With 2 buffet restaurants and 7 a la carte, Catalonia Royal Tulum guarantees the quantity, but sacrifices some quality. There are Mexican, Italian and Asian cuisines represented, but they don’t feel authentic.

Photo: All inclusive resorts are not something that we really enjoy, but we decided to give it a chance and have some downtime where we are not traveling every other day to a new place. In the end we realized that this type of travel is definitely not for us and the excitement of seeing a new place or stumbling upon something that we did not expect, are the reasons (along with many others) that we love to travel and see as much as possible. I was however very thankful for this stunning beachside organic restauran / @fortheluvofpalms

drinking

A tequila bar located by the pool? That might not be the best of ideas. But the Cats’ Disco set in the lobby is a good choice to close out the night. There is a total of 5 bars, plus each restaurant has its own wine list.
