Fodor's Expert Review El Quelite

Hardworking farmers and cattle ranchers inhabit the village of El Quelite (29 km [18 mi] northeast of Mazatlán, off Carretera 15), which has colorfully painted houses and cobblestone streets. Tours take in livestock, a tortilla factory, a bakery, and a typical country lunch—and sometimes also a rooster (read: cockfighting) farm, a demonstration of the pre-conquest ball game known as ulama, or a traditional riding and roping exhibition called charrería.
