Fodor's Expert Review Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Resort & Spa

Previo Paraíso Escondido, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur 23450, México See on Map

Soothing waterfalls, glass-domed ceilings, and pebbled floors bring nature indoors to complement this holistic approach to vacationing. The emphasis here is on health and wellness, peace and tranquillity, so it follows that children are not permitted. A physician who works with natural therapies oversees the Armonia spa, where treatments include watsu and an outdoor, beachside temezcal, or native Aztec sweat lodge. It's a refreshingly small hotel by Los Cabos standards, and rooms have minimalist decor with cream fabrics, cedar-and-straw accents, and ocean views. The designers incorporated feng shui elements throughout the resort and grounds, which are absolutely stunning, with patterned cactus gardens designed by the talented Cacti Mundo team from San José del Cabo.

room

Impersonal elements like stone and tile are offset by warm wood, colorful appointments, and an abundance of comfortable pillows. Lodgings in the newly built Towers at Pacifica, a resort-within-a-resort concept, showcase a slightly more contemporary design, and feature private butlers for each suite.

The four ground floor suites at the Towers at Pacifica include private patio plunge pools.

bathroom

Spacious bathrooms feature walk-in showers, as well as pampering products from the on-site Armonia Spa.

lobby

Pacifca’s holistic approach to tropical relaxation is evidenced by its clean, simple, and elegant lobby: highlighted by nature inspired art, and a shallow water fountain beneath an off-center dome, slanted to maximize natural lighting.

pool

Swimming on the Pacific Ocean side of Cabo San Lucas is dangerous, but a pair of large infinity pools provide plenty of room to swim, as well as ample opportunities for swim-up cocktails. Canopied daybeds are available beachside.

gym

Situated below Peninusla Restaurant, Pacific’s gym is an expansive fitness facility with state-of-the-art resistance training equipment, multiple cardio options, and gorgeous Pacific Ocean views.

dining

Regionally inspired cuisine headlines the bill of fare at Península, the newly opened restaurant at the Towers at Pacifica. Chef Octavio Hernández’s mastery of locally sourced ingredients is evidenced by his superb pulpo al ajillo (octopus in garlic and chile sauce), and his tender, slow-cooked short ribs. Additional on-site dining options include Mexican and Mediterranean cuisine at Siempre, seafood at Pescados, international fare at Aire Restaurant, and baked goods and sandwiches at Bocados Deli.

drinking

Sip Baja wines from Valle de Guadalupe at Península, savor margaritas at Aire Aquabar, sample from the incredible tequila collection at Siempre, or relax with sunset martinis at Fire & Ice Oceanfront Bar.

LOCATION

Getting Around

Nothing is within walking distance of Pacifica. Set on a secluded stretch of coast north of Cabo San Lucas, and accessible only by a picturesque two-lane road, Pacifica’s all-inclusive plan is designed so that guests lack for nothing on-site. Those who do want to explore can reach Médano Beach in Cabo San Lucas via Pueblo Bonito’s hourly intra-resort shuttles, or rent a car.

Restaurants

Enjoy breakfast at laid-back local’s favorite Casasola Café and Brunch (10-minute drive to Calle Miguel Hidalgo), or the unique fusion cuisine at Templo (Calle Miguel Hidalgo), where chef Mariano Takinami has crafted a menu from disparate Argentine, Peruvian and Asian influences.

Bars

Pancho’s Restaurant and Tequila Bar (10-minute drive to Calle Miguel Hidalgo) offers over 500 varieties of México’s national spirit.

WHY WE LIKE IT

In addition to its gorgeous coastal setting, adults-only Pacifica offers convenient access to Quivira Golf Club, a spectacular Jack Nicklaus design that GOLF Magazine named best new international course in 2015.
