Why We Like It
La Fonda and its restaurant Buzzard’s are the last stops for rest and refreshments before journeying up the East Cape – the 70-mile belly-shaped arc between San José del Cabo and Los Barriles – and beyond. But the charming accommodations, cool bar and grill, and secluded beach make this a destination in its own right.
If you're looking for a peaceful back-to-nature retreat, check out this hotel on a long, secluded beach that straddles the line between desert and ocean. Once the diners clear out of the adjacent and very popular Buzzard's Bar & Grill, La Fonda is even more tranquil. Renovated in 2014, the three thatch-roof cabañas and one suite are in heavy demand by both surfers and the more adventurous in high season. Cabañas have en suite toilets and sinks but share a hot-water shower; the suite has standard in-room facilities. The whole operation runs on solar power.

Bright tropical colors predominate in the sunnily decorated cabañas, from bedding and furniture to shutters and ceiling fans.
The suite has a queen-sized bed, plus a pull-out sofa bed that’s perfect for kids.

The lone suite has its own shower, while the three cabañas share a shower. All have sinks and toilets.

There is no traditional lobby, but there is a traditional gift shop, with plenty of Buzzard’s branded shirts and hats.

Mexican and American comfort food favorites make up the menu at Buzzard’s, a laid-back, palapa-topped bar and grill where daily specials are sometimes scribbled on a surfboard.
Breakfast is included.

Margaritas and piña coladas are specialties of the house at Buzzard’s.
