Fodor's Expert Review Paloma Bonita
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Replicating three regions of Mexico, this vibrant setting features stone fountains, handcrafted furniture, and colorful linens imported from the western state of Michoacan. Waiters dressed in sombreros dance between the tables while women in traditional costumes serve olive bread from wicker baskets. This is one of the best places in the Hotel Zone to get authentic Mexican cuisine—so be adventurous! Traditional fare like moles enchiladas (stuffed corn tortillas covered with thick chocolate and chile sauce) is fabulous here—and if you're unsure about what to order, the waiter will explain the different chiles used in many of the dishes. Treat your palate to queso fundido Oaxaca, a specialty of bubbling cheese dripping from a stone pot onto handmade tortillas. The glass-enclosed patio with its water view is a great place to linger over tequila or a tamarindo margarita. The live music here is Norteño style. Unlike the neighboring nightclubs, this lively atmosphere will remind you that you are in Mexico. Meals are on the heavy side, so come with an appetite.
