Although it would be a stretch to call this cluster of clapboard houses attractive, the town's rich heritage lends it a unique atmosphere. More cruise ships are docking at the port here each day, which has led to a retail boom and mega shopping plazas aimed at ship passengers. Besides shopping and absorbing the general vibe, there are no attractions here to speak of.
Coxen Hole was named after John Coxen, a buccaneer who lived on Roatán at the end of the 17th century. The town itself, however, wasn't settled until more than a century later. The largest town on the island, it serves as the gateway to Roatán. Here you'll find the airport and most bank branches, as well as ATMs.
