Fodor's Expert Review Casa La Capilla

5 Av. Sur 21, Antigua, Sacatepéquez, 03001, Guatemala

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Capilla means "chapel" in Spanish and, indeed, you'll find one here in the middle of this lodging's requisite fine colonial garden, the site of occasional weddings and church services. But sacred the place is not. The chapel also hosts weekly poker games, yoga classes, or corporate dinners. Next to the chapel is a log-fire sauna, perfect for warming away aches from walking up and down Antigua's cobblestone streets. There's a fun vibe here amid the colonial elegance. Rooms are arranged around the garden, and have high-beam ceilings, lime-wash walls, and plenty of colonial-era art, and guests get personal mobile phones. Huge breakfasts consist of freshly squeezed juices and pastries.

PROS

  • many activities, friendly atmosphere

CONS
