Fodor's Review

Is that a plane that just crash-landed in the jungle? It's hard to miss Charter Restaurant's Boeing 727 as you approach Dominical from San Isidro de El General. Kids of all ages will delight in stopping here if only to get close to a real plane (minus the engine), transported here, piece by piece, by the aircraft-enthusiast owner. The gimmick is irresistible, the food in the rancho restaurant next to the plane beats any airplane food, and the portions are huge. There are succulent grilled pork ribs and spiced-up tenderloin tips flambéed in brandy and sherry. For lunch there's the Plane Burger, with bacon, chili peppers, lettuce, and tomato. Fish and seafood are fresh and the excellent pastas include a standout penne à la vodka. If the kids tire of checking out the plane, there's also a swimming pool to keep them amused while grown-ups enjoy lunch. Cocktails are a bargain, at only $6. Dinners are candlelit and romantic—a little like dining on the set of the TV show Lost.
