Fodor's Expert Review Wilson Botanical Garden

Road to Ciudad Neily, 6 km (4 miles) south of San Vito, San Vito, Puntarenas, 60801, Costa Rica Fodor's Choice

The best features of the dozen comfortable rooms here, in three modern buildings built of glass, steel, and wood, are the private balconies cantilevered over a forested ravine, perfect for bird-watching. Rates include three hearty, home-style meals, a guided garden tour, and access to the forest trails. Each room, named after the exotic plant growing at the doorway, has two single beds or three singles. New crafted-wood furniture and botanical prints keep the rooms light and fresh. All have beautiful refinished wood floors and freshened bathrooms. Staying overnight is the only way to see the garden at dusk and dawn, and you can walk the Sendero Río Java, a trail that follows a stream through a forest with birds and monkeys. The staff here is cheerful and professional, and the youthful enthusiasm of visiting research students is evident.
