Fodor's Expert Review Greentique Wildlife Refuge
This park (previously named Manuel Antonio Nature Park and Fincas Naturales Wildlife Refuge) is operated by Hotel Si Como No. A former teak plantation has been reforested to allow native trees to spring back among the not-so-native ones. A footpath winds through part of the 20-acre tropical forest, and naturalist guides do a good job of explaining the local ecology and identifying birds. The reserve is home to three kinds of monkeys, as well as iguanas, motmots, toucans, tanagers, and seed-chomping rodents called agoutis. Two-hour guided walks are given throughout the day, plus a nighttime jungle trek that departs at 5:30 pm. The quickest and least expensive tour is an hourly walk through exhibits on 12 species of butterflies. Unfortunately, you can't explore the reserve at your own pace.
