Fodor's Review

Wildly popular, this casually chic, alfresco pizzeria on a quiet side street has plenty of cars parked outside most nights, particularly Sunday when all the Tamarindo locals seem to meet and greet here. Families are especially fond of La Baula—the Costa Rican name for the leatherback turtle—because of its reasonable prices, noisy buzz, and adjacent playground and picnic-like dining area, which keeps expanding to accommodate the crowds. There's also a softly lighted dining area for more-romantic dinners. Everyone enjoys the consistently delicious thin-crust pizzas. The prosciutto, arugula, and Parmesan pizza is perfect. If you're not a fan of pizza, there's little other choice on the menu. They also serve Italian wine by the glass and a tasty little tiramisu, followed by a glass of limoncello or sambuca.
