Hotel Amor de Mar
South of town, past bridge, Montezuma, Puntarenas, 60111, Costa Rica
Fodor’s Expert Review
This chic and charming small hotel on a grassy lawn between the rocky shoreline and the entrance to Montezuma's most popular waterfall hike is the perfect place to spend a romantic weekend. Enhanced by a spectacular sea view, this nine-room inn is the epitome of sophisticated serenity. On the grounds, you can cool off in a natural tidal pool at low tide or lounge about in one of the palm-shaded hammocks. The intimate terrace restaurant, open to the public, serves an excellent homemade breakfast (not included) and light lunch, with a focus on organic foods. The vintage wood-paneled rooms have been upgraded with quiet air-conditioning, small fridges, contemporary bathrooms, and lots of shelves and hanging space. Artistic design details abound; everywhere your eye falls, there's something intriguing to look at, from fantastical lamps made from driftwood and silk, to carved wooden furniture, to glass-mosaic patterns twined around pillars. Two second-floor rooms have private verandas with sea views; No. 8 is a corner room on the ground floor, with a semi-private terrace and ocean view. In the garden, two oceanfront villas are perfect for families or a group of friends. Casa Luna sleeps 7 to 8, with air-conditioning in the ground-floor bedrooms, and a top floor with kitchen and sitting areas open to ocean breezes. Casa Sol has no air-conditioning, but has a huge terrace upstairs. The hotel is not ultra-luxurious but it is the prettiest lodging in town.
