Fodor's Expert Review Conchal Hotel
200 m south of the bridge, Brasilito, Guanacaste, Costa Rica Fodor's Choice
It may not be on the beach, but this quaint 13-room boutique hotel is certainly a diamond in the rough in rustic Brasilito, with breezy rooms framing an attractive pool-centered courtyard and a second-story restaurant luring travelers from afar with wholesome cuisine. Guests are greeted with refreshing juice and are escorted to rooms with polished concrete floors, flat-screen TVs, queen beds, high ceilings, spacious showers, and free Wi-Fi. The coffeemakers, hair dryers, bathrobes, and king beds are a nice touch in the superior rooms (hard to come by, Room No. 1 is your best bet for space and luxury). Each has a patio looking out to the courtyard filled with hibiscus, plumeria, and red ginger plants. Included in the rate is a Continental breakfast of tropical fruit, fresh-baked bread, and homemade marmalades. At night, the garden looks magical as lights reflect off the pool, and by day you’ll be sharing it with iguanas, birds, and the occasional monkey. The owners can arrange sailing, surfing, and horseback-riding tours.
