Fodor's Review

Just below the main road is this lovely Italian-inspired restaurant where wooden tables are draped with red-and-white linens, and soft music and candles add a touch of romance. In typical Costa Rican fashion, the menu is textbook thick, with options ranging from local ceviche and beef carpaccio to caprese salad and tamarind chicken. Stick to the Italian specialties: brick-oven pizza and ravioli are made with a dough that combines five types of flour from Italy and Costa Rica. The Italian sausage pizza has a kick, and the “Volcán” with ham, mushrooms, bacon, and pepperoni is a local favorite. The chef invites kids to make their own pizzas, or they can order from the children’s menu. Wine-pairing recommendations are listed next to each item, and there’s a “light section” if you’re counting calories. Clearly the bacio perugina didn’t make the cut; these baked pastries are stuffed with Nutella and caramelized almonds and served with vanilla ice cream.
